What the heck is happening with our air travel the last couple of years???
In the latest example of disaster-aversion, a Southwest pilot made a risky maneuver to avoid a possible collision with another plane in a flight from Burbank, California to Las Vegas, Nevada.
Here's the testimony from a passenger.
It felt like ... Tower of Terror ... The screaming, it was terrifying we really thought we were plummeting to a plane crash ... after everyone was shaken up for a couple of seconds we realized that the flight attendant had hit her head. It felt like we were flying in the air. The pilot came on and told us we almost collided with another plane and that they lost air traffic control ... to know that the plane was coming toward us.
There were actually two crew members injured during the incident.
How in the world does this miscommunication, or no communication at all, continue to happen?
This happened just a week ago in North Dakota.
Here's more info from NBC News:
Yes, last week it was a B-52, this week it was a vintage British fighter plane!
Is there some thing we're doing where we feel like military aircrafts don't need to talk to ATC?
FAA records show that the Hawker Hunter is registered to a company in Newark, Delaware. NBC News has emailed the company to confirm that the Hawker Hunter was its aircraft.
I'm getting really tired of the apparent incompetence of Air Traffic Control.
