Teen brags he'll get "slap on the wrist," "be out in 30 days" after running over retired police chief

There are a lot of terrible stories out there every day, but some make you stop and wonder what on Earth is happening in our society.

Last month in Las Vegas, two teenagers, now ages 18 and 16, reportedly got in a stolen car and, for some reason, decided to mow down an innocent 64-year-old retired police chief, Andreas Probst, on his bike. They recorded the horrible crime and posted it on social media because, well... of course, they did. That's just where we're at in our society.

According to the incident report obtained by Fox News Digital, the 18-year-old teen driver scoffed at officers, saying he'd only get a "slap on the wrist" and be out of jail in less than a month.

"You think this juvenile s--- is gonna do some s---? I'll be out in 30 days. I'll bet you," he was captured saying on the officer's body camera.

I should note he made this statement before police even mentioned the hit-and-run.

The officer responded, "You might be out of juvie in 30 days and moved to an adult jail because that's how bad it is."

But the driver didn't seem concerned. "It's just a, f------, ah, hit-and-run. Slap on the wrist," the teenager allegedly replied, according to the police report.

The driver's admission was telling as he had only been charged at that point with obstruction for fleeing, not for the deadly collision, police said.

The remorseless driver's accomplice, who was the one to share the disturbing video of Probst's death on social media, was only apprehended last week following the police's discovery that the footage was being circulated at a local high school.

Police say the duo were on a reckless rampage in a stolen Hyundai Elantra that August morning.

According to Fox, they initially hit a 72-year-old bicyclist at 5:30 a.m. with the stolen car, causing him to hit the ground, but, luckily, he was left with only a knee injury. The young criminals then sideswiped a Toyota Corolla before directing their attention toward Probst.

In the footage, the driver asks, "Ready?" as the passenger points his iPhone at the bicyclist. One of the men can be heard laughing.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, hit his a--," he tells the driver, who then veers the Hyundai into the bike lane, smashing into Probst's back wheel, sending him into the windshield and over the hood of the car.

I'm going to post the video here with a MASSIVE CONTENT WARNING about the depravity it shows.

The passenger turns, points his iPhone out the window and records Probst roll to a stop on the side of the road.

"Damn, that n---- got knocked out!" the passenger says, as the car can be heard accelerating.

The pair ditched the still-idling 2016 car on North Jones Boulevard and fled on foot. After authorities obtained the footage, the case became a homicide probe. Investigators tracked down additional videos of the hit-and-runs that day, which haven't been publicly released.

The teens reportedly stole TWO MORE VEHICLES after the hit-and-run.

Andreas Probst retired as a Bell, California, police chief in 2009 after 35 years of service and moved to the desert oasis in Vegas, where he continued to work in global security. His daughter, 3 miles away at the family home, found him dead after getting a notification from his Apple Watch that he had fallen.

His wife, Crystal Probst, told Fox News Digital she's heartbroken.

It's not just about one victim. We as a nation are victims. We are victims of senseless crimes. We all need to show up and show our outrage in the courtrooms.

The 18-year-old is set to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on October 1, whereas the 16-year-old's next court date is November 8.

If they are found guilty, the harshest penalty they could receive is a sentence of 20 years to life in prison. According to Nevada law, individuals convicted of murder committed before their 18th birthday are not subject to the death penalty.
