Here's some backward reasoning for you from the Salvation Army.
The help-people-when-they're-down-and-out organization thinks that President Trump's tariffs are going to make it harder for people financially, and whether they're right or not, you would think this would be the time they would ask for more donations to help those hardest hit.
BUT NO!
In fact, they're asking people to donate 25% less.
‘We're anticipating that with the tariffs we'll have more people than ever looking for assistance. But it also means our donors may be struggling a little more with increased costs for them,' says Major Pam Goodyear, the Salvation Army Atlantic division's secretary for public relations. ‘The idea (is) rather than not donating, give us less if you need to. So, if someone would normally give us a $100 donation and they don't feel they can do that, could they make a $75 donation?'
Goodyear admits that offering people the chance to give less might hurt the people who need their services the most.
She says she hopes others will jump in and fill the gap, but it certainly seems like virtue-signaling her disapproval of Trump is going to do a lot more damage than the tariffs ever will.
