This American family tried to bring home an unexploded artillery shell they found on an Israeli battlefield. When security discovered it at the airport, the entire place turned to chaos.

Hey guys, I have some really important advice for you: if you ever visit Golan Heights—the Israeli-occupied site of the 1967 Six-Day War between Syria and Israel, where remnants of the conflict can still be found—you should not pick up anything that you haven't dropped yourself.

You should also stick to the trail, lest you find yourself in an old Syrian minefield.

Anyhow, if you do pick something up, don't be like this family, who picked up an unexploded artillery shell, packed it in a bag, and tried to get it through security at the Ben-Gurion Airport.

Get this: When the American family got to the airport's security checkpoint, one of them just casually pulled the bombshell out of a backpack and asked authorities if it could be put in a suitcase.

This thing:

Yeah...

The officer had no choice but to clear the area immediately.

But it gets worse:

The official ordered her immediate vicinity to be cleared, but another passenger who misheard her started shouting "terrorists shooting," triggering mass panic, the site said.

My goodness!

Look at the scene this created:

All because some bozo decided it was a good idea to pick up an explosive and keep it as a souvenir.

Incredibly dumb!

And I can't believe this last part:

The family was allowed to board their flight after being interrogated by security, who gave the all-clear.

I'm guessing they just decided, "You know what? You can't fix stupid," and let them go.

I have to say, I'm actually quite embarrassed for this family.
