"Fictosexual" dude (yes, I just found out about this too) is sad he can't talk to holographic "wife" due to discontinued software

It looks like the new Black Mirror episode just dropped.

Akihiko Kondo, a 38-year-old Japanese man, started "dating" fictional pop singer Hatsune Miku in 2008. In 2018, Kondo "married" Hatsune, even holding a wedding ceremony for the "marriage." Kondo invited his family and co-workers, but none of them attended.

"There are two reasons why I had a wedding publicly," Kondo said at the time. "The first one is to prove my love to Miku. The second one is there are many young otaku people like me falling in love with anime characters. I want to show the world that I support them."

The maker of Gatebox, a $1,300 machine that allowed Akihiko Kondo, 39, to communicate with his holographic "wife," recently stopped supporting the software. This left Kondo unable to communicate with Hatsune.

"My love for Miku hasn't changed," Kondo said told Japanese newspaper Mainichi. "I held the wedding ceremony because I thought I could be with her forever."

In all seriousness, my heart breaks for this man.

I don't feel bad for him because his "wife" can't talk to him anymore...

I'm heartbroken that he's utterly lost.

He's enslaved to his lust for a fictional character. New York Post reports there are thousands of "fictosexuals" in the world. Imagine the ruined lives coming from such fantasies.

Perhaps the discontinuation of the software, in God's providence, can be a wake-up call for Kondo and other so-called "fictosexuals." Or perhaps it'll be the pre-cursor to another step down in their descent into madness. I hope it's the former, and not the latter.
