Opening day doubleheader up in Sacramento, and we get something I've simply never seen in baseball: Sacramento State's Matt Masciangelo was hit by a pitch in seven out of eight plate appearances.
Not kidding, and I'll give you the tape because I know you don't believe me.
"Did he just get hit again?!?!"
🤣🤣🤣
Seven times in a single day this guy got on base on a hit by pitch.
That's unheard of!
And it makes for a great on-base percentage!
To me, this doesn't look intentional on the Loyola Marymount side; it seems like Masciangelo just knows how to lean into a pitch.
And check this out: During the Sunday matchup (same squads) Masciangelo got beaned again!
Yeah, I think this kid just knows how to take one for the team (though that video doesn't really help to determine that).
So in total, on opening weekend, Masciangelo was hit by a pitch eight out of fourteen plate appearances. An amazing feat, and I hope this kid is going for the record!
37 is the number to beat!
