This is a real Slate article.

So Slate actually ran this headline in their Care and Feeding column: "How Do I Keep My Son From Becoming a Mansplainer."

Yup, and they're very serious.

Isn't that what keeps every parent up at night, the bone-chilling fear that your child might be a MANSPLAINER?

Yeah, the kid's four, by the way. FOUR. But Mom's worried:

Am I raising a mansplainer? My son is almost 5, and he has always been very voluble and also willful. For the past few months, he has taken to interrupting us when we are talking and saying, "Actually! Actually …"

Admittedly, that does sound super annoying.

But, gee, I wonder where junior could have learned this irritating and condescending behavior? Could it have been from Mom, who couldn't write a one paragraph question without finding a way to mention that she has a Ph.D.?

It occurs when we are explaining things to him, and of course he is always really wrong, because he is 4 and these are often topics that we have a Ph.D. in.

Dad seems to have received temporary permission to share his opinion on the matter:

My spouse is not concerned. He notes that we explain things to each other a lot and thinks our son is just picking up on that dynamic.

Do you smell that? Smells like subtext to me. Almost like this lady doesn't realize that she's Miss ACKCHYUALLY and her kindergartener learned it from her.

But that wouldn't be possible, right? Mom couldn't be the know-it-all in the family who is now feeling threatened by a preschooler. No. We're talking about sexism! We're talking about MANSPLAINING (even though the woman asking the question clearly said the kid does it to Dad, as well).

To be fair, Slate actually offered some reasonable advice to this anguished woman:

...merely thinking of what he's doing as "practicing his storytelling" rather than "mansplaining" might be a step in the right direction...

Really? Chalk it up to a kid acting like a kid? How dare you!

That's just the sort of advice a MANSPLAINER would give.
