What the heck do you do in this situation??
(STRONG language warning, but when you see it you'll understand why these guys were almost out of their minds with fear.)
These gents said the man came out of nowhere and started ramming them. One has to wonder if maybe these guys cut the truck driver off or there were some nasty words exchanged and the truck driver just snapped.
But it seems this guy was on an insane grand-theft-auto spree and these two got randomly caught in his sights.
The victims, Zabian and Naeem Issa, said the incident began at 7 a.m. on Wednesday when "a man in a pickup pulled next to them and took out a gun."
"This guy pulls up beside me and draws a gun and points a gun at us," Issa said. "So I started to speed up trying to get away from him and he gets behind me, just starts ramming me from behind."
Issa said that after the video stopped, their car automatically went into safety mode, refusing to let them drive any farther (modern computerized cars are just the best...). That's when he said the truck driver stopped and approached them.
Fortunately, the police officer they saw at the end of the video showed up a moment later:
"I slammed on my brakes knowing that police officer is going to catch up to me," he said. "I slammed on my brakes and [the pickup truck] passed me a little bit and he slammed on his brakes and he was going to jump out of his truck, but then the police officer pulled up behind us and he went taking off. And then the police officer went after him."
It certainly sounds like this guy was simply nuts, completely insane, and just out to cause trouble. He had reportedly been seen the previous night stealing cars and ramming into things.
The incident on the Henday was one of many involving the driver, police say.
Officers were called to the area of 117 Avenue and 102 Street around 8:10 p.m. on Tuesday after receiving several reports of a white pickup truck smashing into other vehicles.
Police determined the driver of the truck had been involved in two violent, armed carjackings earlier in the evening.
The driver in question had 17 outstanding warrants in his name. So I think it's reasonable to conclude that this really was an unmotivated, deranged road rage incident.
When the officer stopped the lunatic, the officer felt threatened enough to fire his weapon, causing the criminal to jump back in the truck and speed away.
Later, the driver reportedly crashed the truck and was involved in a shootout with police while trying to boost ANOTHER vehicle.
The police ultimately arrested the maniac. There's no word if he was injured, but they took him to the hospital. Praise God he's off the streets.
