Honestly, when you hear that a monsoon hit Arizona, of all places, you'd be forgiven for asking: "Is that even possible?"
It is, though — the term isn't localized to one specific region and they happen all over the world — and Arizona got a pretty big one this week:
Over 32,000 people were left without any electricity after downed power lines left roads blocked and flipped airplanes on their sides following a devastating rainfall and destructive winds. On Tuesday, the monsoon recorded 2.32 inches of rain in the last 24 hours, while Mesa recorded 2.13 inches after falling in a record short space of time.
That's enough rain for the Arizona Department of Transportation to remind drivers how to drive when the pavement is wet:
Footage of the storm showed it was no joke:
The storm came just days after the state set "a record-breaking [110º] heatwave."
