Viral footage shows Mississippi family being carjacked at gunpoint with multiple small kids in the car

Every parent's (or grandparent's) worst nightmare:

You can tell this is real because everything is in a state of just total chaos and disorder. Nobody knows what to do or where to go.

The Jackson, Mississippi woman, Heather Allen, was with her son, daughter and grandchildren when it happened:

My son gets out … I told him to run, go into the house, and then that's when I go for the grandbabies in the back seat ...

They're [the carjackers were] in between my daughter, and they're going back and forth like, 'give me the keys, give me the keys.' My daughter's like, 'They're in the car,' and then that's when it dawned on me, I had my keys around my neck, so I took them off and threw them to them to get them out of my yard.

The incident reportedly took place "just 40 minutes after another carjacking on a nearby street."

Amazingly, one of the criminals was just 14 years old. How do we know? Because he got turned in — by his own parents:

According to Jackson police, the juvenile was brought into custody Wednesday. Police said the parents of one of the suspects brought their 14-year-old son into the Copiah County Sheriff's Office to turn him in after seeing that viral video on the news.

Jamontae Latrell Kelly, 14, is charged with carjacking and six counts of aggravated assault in connection with Friday's carjacking at a home on Jayne Avenue in Jackson.

The young man's bond has been set at a massive $1.75 million.

(The Allen family, meanwhile, is making plans to move out of Jackson — can you blame them?)

It's worth noting that crime is getting so bad in Jackson — the state's capital — that Gov. Tate Reeves earlier this year vowed to use major police resources to put a stop to it:

‘Jacksonians deserve to live in peace, and they should not have to fear for their safety while running errands or commuting to work,‘ Reeves said. 'Together with our local and federal partners, we will put a stop to it.'

Let's hope they get on that ASAP, because carjackings of families with small children is unacceptable.
