With a headline like this, I think we can safely say that we've arrived in the future.
When a group of employees in a San Jose, California, restaurant have to rescue their robot server from a kidnapper, I think we can safely say this stuff is no longer science "fiction."
Check it out:
The kidnapper entered Pho 21 early last Saturday morning and asked to use the restroom, and when he saw his chance, he grabbed the robot, which is quite heavy, and sort of fumbled his way to the door, trying to load it into a van out front.
Dude really thought he was going to get out of there with a 130-pound, $18,000 robot!
Assuming it's this one.
Employees scrambled and managed to wrestle the robot away from the man before calling the police.
The owner of Pho 21 said that it didn't make any sense to steal the robot. Sure it's worth $18,000, but its software would make it inoperable outside the restaurant.
You'll be happy to know the robot is uninjured and is back to serving pho to customers.
As for the robot kidnapper, well, it's the Bay Area, so of course he's still out there looking for more robots to steal.
