Well done, everyone: Americans' confidence in the media is back down to the all-time record low!

It makes you proud to see so many of your fellow countrymen all coming to the same, correct conclusion:

The 32% of Americans who say they trust the mass media "a great deal" or "a fair amount" to report the news in a full, fair and accurate way ties Gallup's lowest historical reading, previously recorded in 2016. Although trust in media currently matches the historical low, it was statistically similar in 2021 (36%) and 2022 (34%).

A record-high 39% of Americans say they have "[no trust] at all" in the media, while 29% have "not very much" trust.

The near-40% figure is "the highest on record by one percentage point" as well as "12 points higher than the 2016 reading."

Gallup has been tracking the question every year for nearly three decades, so they've seen a lot of data. And none of it looks particularly good for the media:

There was a nice little blip in there in 2018; you can imagine the media getting excited right around then. "Hey look, we're getting better!" Then, nope, back down again.

Notably, even though Democrats have (understandably) had way more trust in the media over the years, "the latest gap of 47 points is the narrowest since 2016." They're starting to figure it out, too, God bless them.

The media haven't figured it out, yet, though โ€” we'll give them a few more years before we start getting worried.
