We might chuckle whenever we take a look at any given year's most popular baby names — "I'd never give my kid that name!" we might laugh — but next year's list kinda sorta feels like no laughing matter:
From Waylon to Maddison, experts are sharing the baby names that parents are expected to christen their newborns with come 2024.
One moniker aficionado, Steph Coffield of Minnesota, predicts that "surnames as first names" — along with gender neutrality — will dominate US birth certificates in the new year.
"I'm seeing a lot of whimsical, gender-neutral surnames being given as first names," Coffield told Yahoo and SWNS.
Here are a few of the top "gender-neutral surnames" at the top of the list for 2024:
- Fisher
- Collins
- Harrison
- Colter
- Huxley
- Ridley
- Spencer
- Carter
- River
- Noa
- Wren
- Sloane
Are they boys, are they girls?
Look, I'm not harping on anyone with these names... I'd just hate to be the substitute teacher in 2032 who has to figure out who Collins, Sloane, Carter, Huxley, and Fisher are.
(I guess it's better than the Gen Zers with classes full of Jayden, Jaeden, Jaiden, and Graydon?)
I'll be interested (and frightened) to see what 2025 brings.
