Gosh, this one is going to make you tear up no matter who you are.
On Friday night, a medical jet crashed in Philadelphia tragically resulting in the loss of everyone on board (6 people) and one person on the ground. The jet was flying an 11-year-old patient and her 31-year-old mom back to Mexico.
During the crash, 10-year-old Trey Howard was out with his dad and sister getting donuts when the plane crashed close to their car. With zero hesitation, Trey threw his body between his sister and the incoming debris.
'Felt like it was a movie, like a horror movie,' said Trey's dad, Andre Howard Jr.
Andre says he was picking up donuts with three of his kids -- ages 4, 7 and 10 -- when the jet came crashing down.
'Sounded like a missile was firing bullets, metal at my car, everyone else's car,' Andre recalled. 'You see a car on fire, a man walking on fire. It was just crazy.'
None of the news outlets mention where the family was buying donuts, but here is video from the local Dunkin' to give you an idea of the chaotic aftermath:
Dad put the car in reverse to get out of there when he looked back and saw his son Trey laying on top of his little sister ... with metal shrapnel sticking out of his head.
Dad got him out of the car and used his socks and shirt to stop the bleeding. A cop then showed up and rushed Trey to the hospital for emergency brain surgery.
Things were shaky for a while, but the docs were able to save him.
When he woke up, he had two questions.
Did he miss the Eagles at the Super Bowl?
Did he save his sister?
'You told us to get down. I was just trying to help my sister ... next thing I know, I thought I died,' Andre said his son told him in the hospital.
What a traumatic experience. And what a miracle this young man was able to be a hero and come out on the other side.
Trey is still recovering from the injury at Philadelphia Children's Hospital. His mom started a GoFundMe here to help with expenses.
I'd love to see him invited as a guest of honor to the Super Bowl if the little champ is feeling up to it. ✊
