White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said the United States will send Ukraine "everything thing it needs for as long as it takes" in its war with Russia.

"I actually think there is a strong backing for Ukraine in the Congress, not just among Democrats, but among Republicans as well," Sullivan said. "Therefore, we believe that we can back up the statement that we will give Ukraine everything it needs for as long as it takes."

Sullivan's statement also comes a few days after the Pentagon confirmed the arrival of an $800 million aid package with cluster bombs. The Pentagon also announced last month that it accidentally sent Ukraine an extra $6.2 billion due to an "accounting error."

The U.S. Congress has allocated to Ukraine approximately $113 billion, which is by far the most of any country since the war started .

Sullivan was also asked if Americans will continue to support giving aid to Ukraine as the war goes on.

"The American people have really hung in there in support of the Ukrainian people, Sullivan said. "You can see it reflected in opinion polls even today how much the American people continue to have a strong degree of backing for what we're doing to support Ukraine."

Last month, a Pew Research Center poll showed 44% of Republicans and Republican-leaning voters said the U.S. aid to Ukraine is "too much," while 14% of Democrats and Democrat-leaning voters said it is "too much."

"If you look at the Republican Party, there is a small cadre of Republicans who stand up and say we should stop helping Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression," Sullivan said.

"But the Republican leader in the senate, Mitch McConnell, did a joint statement with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer in which they both said that assistance to Ukraine would not be subject to the debt agreement that was reached between President Biden and congressional Republicans. Senior republicans in the house have said the same thing."

Over the weekend, Tucker Carlson asked Republican presidential candidate Mike Pence about his continued support for sending aid to Ukraine. It did not go well for Pence, whose response to one question came off the exact opposite of how he likely intended it to be taken:
