This is just a video of police and other heroic first responders doing what they do every dang day:
At 6 a.m. on Sunday, police received a call from the 17-year-old's mother, who said she had been threatening to harm herself before leaving the house. Police were told she might be heading to the bridge.
When officers arrived, they found her on the outside of the security railing, inching her way over the bridge to the freeway.
Two officers, Deputy Jenkins and Detective Roseanna Vinci, talked with the girl, calming her by telling her they would be there for her when she was ready to jump, while shutting down the freeway and bringing in a fire rescue crew at the same time.
When the girl was distracted, Deputy Jenkins quickly handcuffed her to the railing as the rescue ladder was deployed.
"This is an outstanding rescue by all agencies involved," said Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly. "The quick response and combined efforts of FCSO deputies, Crisis Negotiations, Communications Center, Fire Rescue, and the deputies holding the juvenile's hand saved a life today. Their training in de-escalation techniques and being able to talk to someone who's threatening to take their life is remarkable. I commend all the men and women who stepped up for this child's life today. Someone's daughter was saved on Father's Day, and I hope she receives the help she needs."
