Gas has hit a 7-year high amid widespread shortages just in time for Independence Day
· Jun 30, 2021 · NottheBee.com

Sure, gas is the most expensive that it's been since 2014 and the nation is expected to have widespread fuel shortages over the weekend of the 4th, but at least our government has brought civility and decorum back to the White House!

"Today, 89 percent of US gas stations are selling regular unleaded for $2.75 or more. That is a stark increase over last July 4 when only a quarter of stations were selling gas for more than $2.25," said Jeanette McGee, a AAA spokesperson. "Road trippers will pay the most to fill up for the holiday since 2014."

Prices in some places are far worse. In the leftist utopia of Los Angeles, gas was near $6 a gallon.

Here's a chart showing how gas compares to previous years.

Meanwhile, gas stations are having a hard time keeping their gas tanks filled due to a shortage of qualified truck drivers that's keeping up to 25% of the nation's tanker trucks parked.

There are now reports of stations running dry or dangerously low as shipments are delayed in the Pacific Northwest, Northern California, Colorado and Iowa as well as Indianapolis and Columbus, Ohio.

"It used to be an afterthought for station owners to schedule truck deliveries. Now it's job No. 1," Tom Kloza, global head of energy analysis for the Oil Price Information Service, which tracks prices for AAA, told CNN.

A curious person might ask what's driving these price hikes and shortages.

Could it be that federal unemployment checks – which have continued to be pushed by the political left as a stepping stone toward universal basic income – is keeping truckers at home because it's easier to get paid to watch TV than it is to drive long hauls away from your family?

"The $300 weekly unemployment checks is a terrific program for those who really need it but it is a deterrent for people to come back to the workforce," said Daniel Romanoff, president of meat distributor Nebraskaland in the Bronx. "We have heard indirectly from our current employees that their friends and acquaintances who have trucking licenses and have opted not to work right now."

Maybe it has something to do with those Russian hackers took down the Colonial Pipeline that supplies fuel to the entire southeastern U.S.

At least President Joe Biden told Putin fuel lines are off limits now!

Or maybe it's that Biden shut down the Keystone Pipeline and drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

It's okay though, because Biden lifted sanctions to allow Russia to build a pipeline. At least our geopolitical foes will have cheap energy!

In case this makes you sad, the House GOP had a comforting thought for us all.

I've gotta say, while I'm enjoying $15 burgers, long lines to get fuel, and $6 gas this Independence Day, I'm going to really be missing that guy who had all the mean tweets!
