FOOD REVIEW: I whipped up a batch of TikTok's viral cottage cheese cookie dough and TikTok may have actually gotten something right

TikTokers are at it again with a new "healthy" cookie dough recipe that is taking the internet by storm.

This cookie dough is not meant to be baked into cookies, but eaten as dough, as all cookie dough should be.

You may have noticed the trend of edible cookie dough that has been popping up everywhere for the past few years, including in cookie dough shops. I haven't actually been to any (I was always of the opinion that all cookie dough is edible if you're committed enough) but could this be their next menu item?

Well, I took the recipe to the Rigby Test Kitchen to find out.

Here's the recipe I used:

I didn't have almond flour, but I was committed to seeing this recipe through, so I literally blanched my own almonds and ground the flour in the blender.

If y'all had any doubt about my domestic abilities, I hope that clears that up.

I made the recipe exactly as written (which if you follow my food reviews you realize is unusual) and while blending the cottage cheese and maple syrup I couldn't help but gag a little bit.

Full disclosure: Protein powder also makes me gag, and I don't understand it. I would rather open a can of beans and eat them cold than drink a protein powder shake.

But apparently, when you mix protein powder with cottage cheese, ground almonds, vanilla, maple syrup, and dark chocolate chips, it's actually pretty delicious.

Like most recipes made with almond flour, the flavor itself is very good (almonds are delicious after all) but the texture is very mealy and I can only eat a few bites before it is just starts to taste weird.

Strangely enough, the almond texture is my only complaint.

Not the protein powder made of peas. Not the COTTAGE CHEESE. So much cottage cheese that just scooping it into the blender made me gag. But it was actually pretty good.

And if you tell people this is healthy, well, I can definitely see why they would go for it. Not to mention, just about everything is better with chocolate chips.

All in all, I was very surprised by this recipe. Would I make it again? Probably not. But was I totally disgusted by it? Not in the least.

Maybe TikTok is onto something after all.
