It happened again.

Officer David Lee of St. Louis was struck and killed by a drunk driver who was living in the U.S. illegally.

Officer Lee leaves behind a wife and two children.

Lee's wife Tonya said that on their last night together they prayed as they always did, and he spoke his last words to her.

It was weird. He laid beside me in the bed, and he put his hand on my thigh, and he said, 'Thank you for everything.' And I said, Oh, Bae, thank you for everything. He said, 'No, seriously, thank you for everything.' And I didn't know this was my husband saying bye to me.

Lee's son Khalil shared about his father:

He was somebody who I could talk to about anything. He's the reason why I chose to go to school for criminal justice and do what I'm doing now.

The man who killed David Lee was an illegal Honduran immigrant named Ramon A. Chavez-Rodriguez. He was drunk at the time, driving without a valid license, and speeding.

Chavez-Rodriguez was on probation due to a prior domestic assault and DWI.

And check this out: his charging documents classify him as a "white male" rather than "Hispanic."
