Mod Pizza closes 5 California locations as state's wage hike kicks in

Uh oh, it looks like those darn capitalists are up to no good again, closing down restaurants because they don't want to pay their employees a fair wage.

We should really save you guys some time and put a compilation article together when we finally discover how many restaurants this new minimum wage law closes. The number will either surprise you or not surprise you, depending on how much you've been paying attention. Anyhow, I digress..

A popular West Coast pizza chain shuttered five of its California locations shortly before the state enacted its new minimum wage law this month that raises fast-food workers' pay from $16 an hour to $20.

Mod Pizza — which has 500 locations across the US and Canada and has been dubbed "the Chipotle of pizza" — abruptly closed up shop at its location in Clovis, near Fresno, two weeks ago, according to former employees …

The locations of the other four Mod Pizza franchises in California that were recently shuttered were not available.

Interesting how the two closed restaurants we've covered today — this one, and the Fosters Freeze in Lemoore — are both located in some of the most poverty-stricken areas of the state.

I thought minimum wage laws were supposed to help poor people...

More of the same for the "progressives."
