After months of discernment, what is believed to be the largest Methodist church in the state of Mississippi is leaving the mainline United Methodist Church denomination in protest of the UMC's affirmation of homosexuality.
This is just the latest in a spate of churches abandoning the UMC thanks to their leftist [read: completely antithetical to the Gospel and Christ] drift.
Christ UMC in Jackson, Mississippi, voted overwhelmingly to leave the liberal denomination.
According to a statement emailed to Christ UMC members, the final vote was 717 (86.39%) in favor of disaffiliating, with 112 (13.49%) opposed to leaving the UMC. To approve disaffiliation, a two-thirds majority was needed.
A special session of the Mississippi Conference will either confirm or reject the church's decision in December.
If all goes according to the congregation's will, on January 1, the church will no longer be "Christ UMC" but will be renamed "Christ United-Jackson."
Since 2019, 6,500 churches have left the mainline denomination; many have joined the more conservative Global Methodist Church.
In June, the Mississippi Annual Conference approved the disaffiliation votes of 189 congregations seeking to leave the UMC, totaling over a fifth of the regional body's member congregations.
Honestly, this is about as amicable a situation as possible given that the UMC is showing no interest in combatting the heretical lurch. Before too long it will be impossible to find a UMC "church."
After all, the ones that remain are filled with old hippies who barely believe anything Christian anymore!
