You HAVE to be "impressed" by the utter state of law enforcement in Los Angeles.
On Wednesday morning, a man in Los Angeles drove his car into a group of police on a morning jog, injuring more than 20 – some critically.
The scene was disturbing, with bodies strewn across the road.
Police detained the man, they know it was him, he was stone-cold sober, and it clearly looked intentional.
But because this is California, just a few hours later they let him out of jail.
Here's CNN:
The man who was arrested for allegedly driving a vehicle into a group of law enforcement recruits in Whittier, California, was released from jail Thursday night, but the sheriff's department insists they did not make a mistake.
Nicholas Joseph Gutierrez, 22, was released from custody at 9:49 p.m., according to jail records, citing an insufficient complaint.
I think that, even if it's an accident, you should be able to hold a guy who ran over twenty people in jail and make sure he stays off the street, right?
What is the justification for letting this guy go?
Gutierrez is still considered a suspect in the case, and the decision to release him was made because investigators want more time to collect evidence to present to the District Attorney's office for charges, not because they believe an error was made, said a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
"It's not like they arrested the wrong suspect," Deputy Deanna Mares told CNN late Thursday night. "They just want to make sure the investigation is going to be complete."
This man might have purposefully run over 25 police officers and they're just going to let him go?
The DA in LA is probably the worst in the entire country.
This is insane.
From the New York Post:
The case was expected to be presented to the DA's office on Friday, but LA County Sheriff Alex Villanueva told NewsNation that the suspect would be "provisionally" released as investigators worked to build a stronger case.
"Right now, we want to tie up all the loose ends on the case and then present it to the DA," he told the cable channel, adding that investigators had "developed probable cause to believe it was intentional."
"They went through an exhaustive interview process with everyone involved, with the video surveillance, the statements from the recruits, the physical evidence they have and what they got from the suspect himself, and they were able to form the opinion this was a deliberate act," Villanueva told NewsNation...
Some of the victims reported that Gutierrez may have sped up in the Honda CRV right before impact near the sheriff's STARS Center Academy.
Witnesses said he was going between 30 and 40 mph at the time.
The suspect took a sobriety test and had no alcohol in his system, officials said.
They determined it was a deliberate act and THEN let him out of jail.
Truly unbelievable.
Give yourselves a hand, LA. You have your Soros-backed District Attorney Eric Gascón to thank for this situation.
