Florida previously had some of the more permissive abortion rules of any state in the southeast. As of Thursday, it remedied that issue.
Ron DeSantis just signed the Heartbeat Protection Act, which bans abortions after 6 weeks gestation, when a heartbeat can typically be observed.
Critics of DeSantis point out that he signed the bill "in the dead of night" because it wasn't a popular bill; however, it appears that DeSantis chose to sign the bill as soon as he possibly could.
Earlier in the day, the Florida legislature passed the Heartbeat Protection Act, or SB 300, which establishes protections for unborn babies with a heartbeat beginning at six weeks' gestation.
The new law also allocates $25 million in funds for pregnancy centers around the state. The money is expected to help women during their pregnancy and after the child is born.
He didn't wait till Friday, he signed the bill the same day it was passed.
And the fact that he tweeted out a statement about it makes it clear it's not something he's hiding from. Unlike some Republicans, he's proud of this. He wears it as a badge of honor.
Before this law, Florida's abortion law allowed abortion up to 15 weeks, which, after Dobbs, made Florida an abortion haven for the South.
No more.
DeSantis's bill is going to save lives in Florida and surrounding states, as we already know that states that ban abortions see fewer abortions.
Another W for Florida and DeSantis.
Another W for the pro-life movement.
