WHOA. Josh Hawley asked Mark Zuckerberg to apologize to victims exploited on Meta platforms and Zuck stood up right there and did it ๐Ÿ‘€

Did not have this on my 2024 Bingo card.

I'm sorry for everything you've all gone through. Nobody should have to go through what your families have suffered. This is why we have invested so much and are going to continue industry leading efforts to make sure that no one has to go through the types of things your families have suffered.

Wild.

Zuckerberg was one of the tech CEOs called by the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday for a hearing on the need for more robust protections to shield children from exploitation online.

From Politico:

The chair of the Judiciary Committee hopes to jump-start a new national debate about harms facing children online โ€” fueled by mounting national frustration among advocates, whistleblowers and victims, who were emotionally represented in the room Wednesday.

The committee has advanced multiple bills aiming to hold tech companies liable for hosting child sexual material, but those have stalled in the Senate.

'Their design choices, their failures to adequately invest in trust and safety, and their constant pursuit of engagement and profit over basic safety have all put our kids and grandkids at risk,' Chair Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said in his opening remarks.

I'll leave you with Ted Cruz going full bulldog on Zuck:

(Now I know why Zuck is building that Hawaiian doomsday bunker.)
